 About Malcolm Reynolds

Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds is the fictional captain of the Firefly-class spaceship Serenity. He was one of the crew featured in the short-lived Firefly series that was aired on Fox. He led a crew of cargo shippers (officially) and did the odd less-legal job from time to time in order to get by. The show was essentially a cowboy/western theme set in outer space. After the series was cancelled, the DVD set sold so well that it enabled a movie to be filmed and released in 2005 called Serenity.

I have to admit, when the Firefly series was originally aired on Fox I watched one episode and then passed on the rest of them... which is what the majority of the public did as well. Part of the problem, as it turned out, was that Fox didn't air them in the order they were intended, so they didn't make as much sense as they should have. Once it was released on DVD, however, I really enjoyed watching the shows and had a great time watching the Serenity movie. I made this custom, not because I liked the character (which I do), but because it was suggested by a good friend... up to that point I hadn't given a second thought to any Firefly customs, but it seemed like a really good fit for a Cuboyd. So, I spent an hour or so working out how to make the "brown coat" he wears out of vinyl from a binder, then added the belt and gun holster (also styrene) before painting everything up. The little gun even fits in the holster perfectly, but now it's just about impossible to get to with the coat over top, so it's a bit of a moot point ;). I'm really happy with how this guy turned out in the end. I think the face came out great, and the browns do work together well once they're all reassembled.
