About Thanos and the Infinity Mitten
In the Marvel comics Thanos is known as the "Mad Titan" of enormous strength and intelligence. There was a series of comics in the early 90's that vaulted him into the spotlight as part of the "Infinity" sagas. In the comics, six powerful stone jewels were combined to create the Infinity Gauntlet, the most powerful artifact in the universe.

This is my made-up story of "What If..." for Thanos and the six jewels. What if Thanos had lost one of his gauntlets in the wash (along with several of the obligatory socks) and had to find a quick replacement? Unable to find his second gauntlet, and running out of time before the heros of earth arrived, Thanos rummaged through his closet for whatever he could find and forged the Infinity Mitten! Side effects include (but are not limited to) being turned into a bear, limited articulation and permanent bad temper. In a childish fit, Thanos ignored his pact with Death (which was to kill half the living creatures in the universe) and instead turned half of the living creatures in the universe into bears like himself. Thus was the Bear Club founded. ;)

I had fun putting this one together... mainly because it was simple enough to get done in the hectic month I've been dealing with. But also because I've always liked the character of Thanos, ever since the Infinity comics were released. I had one last Stikfas bear laying around and decided to turn it into another pint-sized character like many others have done this month (thanks to the first part of Larry's Custom Challenge).

The design of the costume wasn't all that difficult to translate to a bear. The part that really gave me fits was the bottom of his coat, which drapes like a kilt/skirt around the upper legs. I ended up using my first bits from a latex glove to make it in this case. I went through four attempts before finally getting it glued in well enough for my likes. It's still a bit off, since it "bunches" a bit at the top of the legs, but it works much better than anything I could have made with the stiffer styrene sheets. After the "skirt" was added the painting part really wasn't all that difficult. Thanos has a nice, simple costume of gold and blue, with the only other color coming from his purple face. Overall, I'm quite happy with this guy. I'm sure it won't be my last bear custom either!

For a special treat, you can even watch me building this bear from start to finish in a time-lapse treatment! The quality isn't super, since it's from a webcam, but it's the first video of its kind from a Stikfas customizer! The link is below:
