Ok, this was definitely one of the most intensive customs I've made in a
long time, and I didn't even use a single bit of epoxy putty anywhere on the
figure! It's all little, tiny bits of styrene plastic carefully cut and
shaped to make the "armor" bits that the movie Megatron has all over him.
One thing I can definitely say... I'll never make another one like him!
Pretty much everything on this figure was made using small bits of
plastic that I cut with an exacto knife and placed carefully with superglue.
The only parts that are not styrene are the
light-piped glowing
red eyes. I was so tired of trying to position miniscule slivers of
white by the end of this build...
Once all of the bits and pieces were in place, I sprayed the entire thing
with silver spray paint, keeping the eyes clear by covering them with
sticky-tack that I peeled away right after applying the paint. Just like
Movie Prime the eyes are two clear
rubber/plastic tubes that were drilled through the head and then colored on
the ends with a sharpie marker. The color really sets itself off nicely
against all the silver and gold on the rest of the body.
Of course, once I had all the bits of styrene glued on and then
everything painted silver, I still wasn't done. The detailing was the last
thing to put in, so I spent a couple hours with a small pigment pen and drew
the black lines everywhere. I also added a few spots of gold here and there,
as the original character had. And there you have it: Megatron!
